Overview of orthodontics services
Cosmetic dental care at Greenwood Dental Arts, the premier cosmetic dentist in Greenwood Village, features Invisalign® clear aligners to create beautiful smiles.
What is Invisalign?
Invisalign clear aligners are clear, plastic molds used to straighten teeth and improve bite issues. A series of these molds gradually straightens permanent, mature teeth by applying gentle pressure over time until the teeth reach their desired position. Each set of aligners, or trays as they’re called, is worn for about 20 to 22 hours every day for a few weeks until the next adjustment needs to be made.
What is the Invisalign Process Like?
To get started, a digital scan of your teeth is taken. A series of clear, plastic aligners are then custom designed at the lab. When the first set is completed, patients can start wearing them immediately. Aligners are generally switched every 1 to 2 weeks, depending on the required movement of the teeth. Routine check-ins are performed every 4 to 6 weeks.
How Long Does Invisalign Take to Work?
Everyone and every smile is different. Some alignments may be done in as little as 4 to 6 months, but most take around 12 to18 months. A few cases may take upwards of 24 months. It all depends on how much correction needs to be made and if any other issues need to be addressed. We will help determine the right treatment time for you.
Who Is a Good Candidate for Invisalign?
Invisalign braces are ideal for older teenagers and adults who need mild to moderate correction of:
- Crowded teeth
- Gapped teeth
While Invisalign is extremely effective at straightening teeth and correcting bites, the process is not for severe cases that often require more intense orthodontic intervention. Invisalign is only effective when worn for 22 hours a day so, while clear aligners can take some time to get used to, dedication and commitment are necessary for a successful outcome. Once Invisalign treatment is completed it is important to wear your retainers to maintain your beautiful smile.
